This cult book was first published by Oxford University Press in 1977 and has remained one of the most influential books ever since. (The 1,144 pages and 900 illustrations make the Ukrainian edition more than just a book).<\/span><\/p>\n

Alexander details 253 \u201cpatterns”\u2014archetypal architectural designs that appear in the environment regardless of time or style. Patterns help create a human-centered environment at any scale: from your personal space to a city block. (Maybe some readers will be lucky enough to use the language of patterns to convince their neighbors that transparent doors are safer than iron ones.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Christopher Alexander (1936\u20132022) was an architect, urbanist, design theorist, founder of a unique school of architecture, and collector of antique carpets. He was a perceptive critic of the inconsistent eclecticism in modern urban planning. Alexander’s ideas influenced object-oriented programming, Wikipedia, and agile methodology. He earned a degree in mathematics from Cambridge and a degree in architecture from Harvard. He established the Center for Environmental Structure Research at the University of California, Berkeley. Alexander’s main work is the four-volume <\/span>The Nature of Order<\/span><\/i>.
