Біжи, Кролику
PLEASE NOTE: This edition is in Ukrainian
Updike begins this story in 1960 with the protagonist escaping from the suburbs, away from his family and daily life. But instead of freedom, the road leads to a new crisis. Run, Rabbit is a novel about identity, masculinity, and the gap between perception and reality.
The first part of John Updike's tetralogy about former basketball star Harry “Rabbit” Angstrom. His youthful sporting glory is behind him, so now Harry lives in a typical 1960s American suburb, suffering from an identity crisis, selling food processors, and arguing with his wife. He is confused and feels trapped in a routine from which he is trying to escape. On his journey, Harry seeks answers, though he is unable to even ask questions.
Updike challenges the Kerouac myth of escape, protest, and freedom: the protagonist takes a path of destruction instead of enlightenment. This cult novel from the 1960s is being published in Ukrainian for the first time.
